Aurelie Poles - Hatha & Vinyasa yoga teacher

MEETING WITH AURÉLIE POLES

"I like to propose creative, flowing sequences with a focus on alignment in the postures."

Take a retreat with me

YOGA AND NON-YOGA TRAINING:

I found my first passion when I started ballet at an early age at the Conservatoire de Danse de Toulouse, and dance unsurprisingly became my priority. Not wanting to take the easy way out, I packed my bags and left to study contemporary dance at the London Contemporary Dance School, where I obtained my Bachelor of Arts degree.

Following an injury, I discovered yoga in a London studio and it was in 2015 that I decided to delve deeper into the subject and train as a Vinyasa Yoga teacher in Bali with the fabulous and radiant Jolie Manza, at the Power of Now Oasis studio.

I then continued to indulge my curiosity by training with Nikki Villela during her 75h Kula Yoga Teacher Training in Portugal and with Philippe Beer-Gabel during his 50h Yin Yoga Teacher Training in Bordeaux, in order to bring softness to my practice in complementarity with the Yang side.

I now work full-time as a Vinyasa, Hatha Flow and Yin teacher in various studios in Bordeaux, as well as training new teachers internationally with the Yogakoh organization, founded by Jolie Manza.

YOUR TYPE OF YOGA TEACHING:

My personal practice as well as my teaching tend towards the tonic practices of Vinyasa Yoga, Hatha Flow and Vinyasa Mandala, to which I seek to add a touch of gentleness with "softer" practices such as Yin Yoga to find balance in our hectic world.

THE UNIQUENESS OF YOUR YOGA TEACHING:

Probably a consequence of my background as a dancer, I like to propose creative, flowing sequences with an emphasis on alignment in the postures. These sensations of both fluidity and energy control are the perfect combination to emerge from a practice aligned and ready to face whatever awaits us off the mat.

The union of opposites is what I try to emphasize... challenging yourself and trying to let go, surpassing yourself and knowing when to slow down, fluidity and power, movement and immobility, the balance of our sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems.

3 WORDS TO DEFINE WHAT YOUR TEACHING BRINGS YOU:

Passing on yoga is a real passion. You can love yoga without loving to teach it. I'm as passionate about studying it as I am about teaching it. Inspiration, community, passion

3 WORDS TO DEFINE WHAT YOUR STUDENTS BRING TO YOU:

Enthusiasm, trust, sharing

ASTROLOGICAL SIGN AND ASCENDANT:

Aquarius

YOUR AYURVEDIC CONSTITUTION:

Mainly Pitta with a touch of Kapha

YOUR ROOTS:

I grew up in Toulouse with Italian roots in my father, who was born in Treviso.

YOUR FAVORITE POSTURE:

Hanumanasana

DREADED POSTURE:

Salamba Sarvangasana (the Candle)

YOGA AND NON-YOGA MENTORS:

Without a doubt Jolie Manza in the first place but also Cat Alip-Douglas, Catia Leite, Marcus Veda, Nikki Villela and many others who have impacted my yogi life.

HORS YOGA.... :

So hard to choose just a few...but I'd say Jeanne Albertini (my first ballet teacher), Tricia Rianne (the 2nd), my 3rd grade English teacher...

  • Vinyasa, Yin

  • Intensity: ★★★★☆

  • Tradition: ★★☆☆☆

  • Feel good: ★★★★★

  • Teaches yoga in: French 🇫🇷, English 🇬🇧

HIS PLAYLIST

YOUR MANTRA:

Patience is the calm acceptance that things can happen in a different order than the one you have in mind

REFERENCE BOOKS:

These books have no connection with my yoga practice, but I'd say all the Romain Gary (or Emile Ajar) books. I think I've already read a lot of them, and I don't intend to stop there.

Also Bonjour Tristesse by Françoise Sagan, La Part de l'Autre by Eric-Emmanuel Schmitt, Betty by Tiffany McDaniel and Dans la Forêt by Jean Hegland.

REFERENCE FILMS:

All Bob Fosse's films (obviously still linked to my past as a dancer). I could be made to watch Sweet Charity, Chicago or Cabaret as many times as there are weeks in the year.

FAVORITE YOGA RELATED MOVIES :

Eat, Pray, Love...a rather common answer, we must admit, but what could be better than our dear Julia Roberts and Javier Bardem!

YOUR FAVORITE PASTIME:

I love riding around on my pretty bike for no particular reason or place and then settling down to read a book that takes me on a journey.

RATHER CONVENIENT IN THE MORNING OR EVENING:

Without hesitation, the morning practice...

YOUR GUILTY PLEASURE:

Without hesitation, chocolate passion, spending hours imagining my next trips...

AND IF YOU WEREN'T A YOGA TEACHER YOU WOULD BE:

When I was 18, if dance didn't work out, I was going to study science to work in research or be a physiotherapist.

WHAT MADE YOU WANT TO JOIN THE YOGASCOPE ADVENTURE?

The happiness of meeting people who are looking to do good for themselves, the community created through the retreats, each one more wonderful than the last, these people ready to let themselves be guided through the experiences and fabulous places that Yogascope offers.

WHY DO YOU FIND THE CONCEPT INTERESTING?

I love the idea of booking a yoga retreat and giving it as much importance or spontaneity as if you were booking a trip...everything is designed to be easy, headache-free and joyful for the person booking, who just has to let themselves be guided through the various innovative and exciting themes.

WHAT VALUES DO YOU WANT TO SHARE THROUGH YOUR WORK?

Good humor, self-discovery and self-respect, sharing the values of yoga beyond the practice of asanas (postures).
